Friel Court at Beasley Coliseum

Beasley Coliseum, named in honor of former Executive Vice-president Wallis Beasley, is located on the Washington State campus in Pullman. The facility opened in 1973, and since 1996, the Cougars men's and women’s basketball teams have played on Friel Court, named for Jack Friel, who led the team to its first NCAA title game in 1941.

The venue features four 11 x 15-foot LED video displays and a gorgeous parquet floor. Up to 12,000 students, fans, and visitors are welcomed here for university events, including concerts, and other university sports. In the past, it has been the site of NBA exhibition games and NCAA men’s basketball tournaments. The student section, known as the "Zzu Cru," is famous for its energetic support.

• James Donaldson (1975–1979): Selected 73rd overall by the Seattle SuperSonics (now OKC Thunder) in 1979, Donaldson spent three seasons with the team before moving on to the Clippers. His presence was most felt on the defensive end, particularly as a rebounder and shot-blocker. During the 1984–85 season, he led the NBA in field goal percentage (0.637), but the best years of his 20-year career were yet to come! He spent 1985–1991 with the Dallas Mavericks, where he became an All-Star and went to the Western Conference Finals in 1988.

• Don Collins (1976–1980): After averaging 23 points per game and leading Washington State to its first NCAA Tournament in 1980, Collins was named the Pac-10 Player of the Year. He was drafted 18th overall by the Atlanta Hawks and had a productive NBA career before moving on to the international leagues. He became the CBA Newcomer of the Year in 1985, the league’s scoring champion in 1986, and the FIBA Saporta Cup Finals Top Scorer in 1988. As if that wasn't enough, Collins was French League Foreign MVP for three consecutive seasons. 

• Craig Ehlo (1981–1983): In 1983, Ehlo was chosen 48th overall by the Houston Rockets, which began a 14-year career in the NBA that included a significant stint with the Cavaliers from 1986 until 1993. He achieved a career-high 31 points three times, and in 1989, during the deciding game of the Eastern Conference First Round series between the Cavs and the Chicago Bulls, he scored on a driving layup to give Cleveland the lead with three seconds left on the clock. It should have ended the game, but Michael Jordan answered it with “The Shot,” a buzzer beater over Ehlo for the win.

• Kyle Weaver (2004–2008): Weaver’s collegiate career marked one of the most successful eras of Washington State University basketball. His success earned him a spot on the All-Pac-10 First Team in 2007. The following year, he was drafted 38th overall by the Charlotte Bobcats (now Hornets), who traded him to the OKC Thunder, where he played 68 games before moving on to the Utah Jazz. Beyond the NBA, he played in the international leagues, including Israel’s Bnei Herzliya, Polish club Pierniki Toruń, and Aris Thessaloniki in Greece.

• Klay Thompson (2008–2011): The son of former NBA player Mychal Thompson, Klay Thompson’s scoring prowess was evident early on. During his college days, he set scoring records and was a two-time First-team All-Pac-10. Selected 11th overall in 2011 by the Golden State Warriors, he made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2012 and has become one of the league’s elite shooters. A five-time All-Star and four-time champion, he represented Team USA in Rio at the 2016 Olympic Games and helped the team win gold!
