The UCLA Basketball Schedule
The UCLA Bruins Men's Basketball schedule encompasses a variety of matchups including classic rivalries, pivotal conference games, and significant inter-conference contests. The season offers an array of challenges that highlight the team's skills, but some confrontations certainly stand out above the rest.
Key Competitors
-
University of Southern California: USC's balanced attack meets UCLA's versatile play in a rivalry that extends beyond the court. When these teams have run-ins, it’s a battle for city pride, and their highly anticipated encounters are packed with intensity with bragging rights on the line.
-
University of Notre Dame: The Fighting Irish bring a unique combination of prestige and tactical play to their games against the Bruins. Notre Dame’s emphasis on cohesive team dynamics and disciplined execution presents a significant hurdle, but UCLA has adaptability on their side.
-
Oregon State University: Oregon State's strong defense makes UCLA’s offense work harder. The Beavers focus on meticulous play, trying to stop the high-scoring style of the Bruins. Strategy takes center stage when these clubs clash, and the results can shake up the Pac-12 standings.
-
University of California, Berkeley: The Cal Bears’ capable defense challenges UCLA's offensive capabilities. Each Golden State showdown between these clubs tests the Bruins' creativity. Expect an emphasis on skillful ball movement in these meetings.
-
Arizona State University: Arizona State's fast and furious gameplay pushes the Bruins to their limits. The Sun Devils' energy is in sharp contrast with UCLA's controlled approach. This leads to unpredictable outcomes, with every face-off keeping fans on the edge of their seats!
Pauley Pavilion Information
The UCLA Bruins Men's Basketball team plays at Pauley Pavilion, a landmark arena on the UCLA campus in Westwood, Los Angeles. Opened in 1965, it is named after the university's influential athletic director, Edwin W. Pauley. The venue has a seating capacity of approximately 13,800 and, in addition to basketball, hosts university gymnastics and volleyball events. The student section is located at the 100 level in the southside seats and is renowned for its vibrant and spirited support during games.
Parking
Multiple lots surround the arena, and while spaces might seem plentiful, they fill up fast! We recommend securing your spot when you purchase your UCLA men’s basketball tickets. This will help to ensure a smooth arrival on game day.
Alternative Transportation
UCLA operates the BruinBus, which provides transportation on and around campus. Check with the school’s transportation service for the latest schedules and routes. Scooters are also prominent in the area.
Notable UCLA Men's Basketball Players
When you watch a UCLA Bruins game, you could be getting a look at the next NBA superstar or international basketball sensation. The following players successfully transitioned from the collegiate courts to professional play:
-
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (1966–1969): In 1966, a young man named Lew Alcindor stepped onto the court at UCLA. Back then, no one knew he would come to be known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time! A dominant force in college, he was drafted first overall in 1969 by the Milwaukee Bucks, where he played for six seasons before a long stint with the Los Angeles Lakers. His accolades include six MVP titles, 19 All-Star appearances, and inductions into the College Basketball and Naismith Memorial Halls of Fame.
-
Bill Walton (1971–1974): Another iconic UCLA player, Walton was hailed as one of the greatest centers in college basketball history. He helped lead his team to two NCAA championships and was named the Naismith College Player of the Year for three consecutive seasons. He was the first pick of the 1974 NBA Draft and repaid his team, the Portland Trail Blazers, by helping them win an NBA championship in 1977. In 1986, Walton won another title with the Boston Celtics, and by the time he retired, he was a two-time All-Star. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1993.
-
Reggie Miller (1983–1987): Miller, known for his three-point shooting precision, was selected 11th overall by the Indiana Pacers in 1987. He spent his entire 18-year career with the team, becoming a five-time All-Star and holding numerous records. He led the league in free throw percentage five times and is still held in high regard by his franchise. He won a gold medal with the USA team during the 1996 Summer Olympics, was named the USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 2002, and was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2012.
-
Russell Westbrook (2006–2008): Drafted fourth overall in 2008 by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2009. He is a two-time scoring champion, three-time assists champion, and nine-time All-Star with two All-Star Game MVP titles to his name. Known for his explosive athleticism and triple-double prowess, he made the NBA 75th Anniversary Team and has played for multiple franchises, including the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, and LA Clippers.
-
Kevin Love (2007–2008): The son of former NBA player Stan Love, Kevin Love was drafted fifth overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2008 after a standout year with the Bruins. He was subsequently traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he remained until 2014. A five-time All-Star, he won gold medals at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Olympics and helped the Cleveland Cavaliers win a championship title in 2016. His rebounding and three-point shooting is still in demand, and Love is currently lending his talents to the Miami Heat.
