About Zeds Dead
After meeting through mutual friends, Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (Hooks) realized their shared love of music and started collaborating as Mass Productions in 2007. They released the new wave/hip-hop/EDM hybrid single, “Journey of a Lifetime,” in 2009, followed by the album Fresh Beetz. Then, after delving deeper into electronic music, they began using MySpace to distribute dance tracks under the name Zeds Dead.
Their first Zeds Dead live set was delivered to a receptive crowd at The Social in Toronto, and the duo soon founded Bassmentality, a weekly party held in basement bars in the 6ix, where new DJs could gain exposure without interference from promoters. Bare Noize, Borgore, Camo & Krooked, Nero, and Skrillex played some of their earliest sets at these events, which went on for over four years.
They have since spent over two decades diversifying the electronic music soundscape with their distinctive fusion of club/dance, EDM, dubstep, jungle, drum'n'bass, house, and trap. Between December 2010 and July of 2014, DC and Hooks played concerts and festivals throughout North America and Europe and released six EPs. Adrenaline and Hot Sauce reached the top 20 of the US Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and Somewhere Else peaked at number four.
In 2016, with the release of the album Northern Lights and the launch of Deadbeats, their own label and live events brand, they underwent a significant shift, focusing on their own music as well as the production and promotion of other innovative artists. They expanded their imprint with the launch of the downtempo label Altered States in 2021, and fans can expect the talented partnership to continue shaping the future and pushing the boundaries of electronic music.
