About AIR

Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoît Dunckel began their musical partnership in  Versailles during the mid-90s. Before they ventured out on their own, their collaboration saw its infancy as part of the band Orange. AIR, which represents love (amour), imagination, and dreaming (rêve), began with a desire to create a distinctive blend of electronic, ambient, and downtempo sounds.

They released their first EP, Premiers Symptômes, in 1997, but it was the album Moon Safari that propelled AIR into the spotlight. The unique fusion of electronica, dream pop, and space rock attracted legions of intrigued listeners. With notable tracks such as "Sexy Boy," "Kelly Watch the Stars," and "All I Need," it solidified their place on the electronic music scene. 

AIR's influence extended into film, and they composed the score for Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides and contributed to the soundtracks of Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. Their versatility and broad appeal were further underscored by collaborations across various genres, including work with Françoise Hardy, Beck, and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

AIR has continued to innovate and explore the boundaries of their sound. The duo's love for vintage synthesizers and diverse studio instruments, combined with their eclectic influences from Kraftwerk to Serge Gainsbourg, has allowed them to maintain a fresh and evolving palette.
