About 50 Cent
50 Cent, born Curtis James Jackson III, emerged from Queens to become a pivotal figure in hip hop as well as an actor, producer, and entrepreneur. After a tough childhood, Jackson’s steep trajectory began in 1996, when he started recording himself rapping over tracks in a friend’s basement.
He was soon introduced to Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC, who played a crucial role in 50 Cent's early development, teaching him songwriting and composition. He was signed to Columbia Records in 1999, but he was severely injured in a shooting in 2000 before his album Power of the Dollar was released.
During his recovery, controversy over one of his songs got him blacklisted and subsequently dropped by his label, so 50 Cent went to Canada to record mixtapes that kept eyes on him. He released Guess Who's Back? in 2002, quickly followed by 50 Cent Is the Future with his rap crew, G-Unit.
Jackson’s attorney passed Guess Who's Back? on to Eminem’s manager, and upon hearing his work, Eminem invited him to L.A. and introduced him to Dr. Dre. After signing a new record deal, 50 had a song included on the 8 Mile movie soundtrack.
The 2003 release of his groundbreaking album Get Rich or Die Tryin' was a major turning point. The album, featuring iconic tracks like "In da Club" and "21 Questions," propelled him to global fame. His debut album and its follow-up, The Massacre, both soared to #1 on the Billboard 200.
Once on top, 50 did his best to maximize every opportunity that came his way. There have been some hits and misses, but every learning experience has helped him evolve from a music icon to a multifaceted entertainment and business mogul.
With his foray into acting, television production, and various business ventures, Jackson continues to redefine his role in the entertainment industry. With music remaining a core part of his identity, fans can anticipate new ventures that push the boundaries of his already diverse and successful career.
