About Santana
During the early 1960s, Carlos Santana, who had been born and raised in Mexico, had been playing guitar in various bands across the Bay Area. As he began to make a name for himself, he assembled a lineup of talented musicians and established the Santana Blues Band, marking the genesis of the group known simply as Santana today.
They became known for their innovative fusion of Latin music with Afro-Cuban rhythms and American rock, blues, and jazz, creating a style that would become their signature sound. Their big break came with their legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969, which broadened their reach and set them on a path to global fame.
Santana’s eponymous debut album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200, and their successful follow-ups, Abraxas in 1970 and Santana III in 1971, spent weeks at the top of the charts. Between 1972 and 1992, produced 14 more albums, and in 1998, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 1999, Santana’s multi-platinum album Supernatural claimed the top spot in ten countries and earned the group their first Grammy for Album of the Year. Carlos Santana also scored a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Smooth," a collaboration with Rob Thomas, which won Record of the Year.
Since then, Santana has continued to produce hit after hit, making them one of the best-selling groups of all time. With several more accolades under their belts, they show no signs of slowing down. The band's ability to evolve while maintaining its core sound hints at continued innovation, and fans across the globe are excited to see what they deliver.
